Grace Roberts, 88, of Springfield, has died of age-related causes.
Born in Rapid City, S.D., to Frank and Chloie (Shank) Doughty, she married Ernest Roberts on Dec. 23, 1931, in Belle Fouch, S.D.; he died on July 23,
A homemaker, she moved to Springfield in 1935 and enjoyed traveling and camping. She loved working in her yard and flower garden. She also loved to read.
She was a member of Springfield Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter: Joyce Briggs (and her husband, Buster) of Springfield; one sister: Addie Olson of Fresno, Calif.; one brother: George Col-lins (and his wife, Janet) of Palmer, Ark.; as well as two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Buell Chapel Funeral Home.

Peter Homer
April 11, 1920-Feb. 14, 2001
Peter Paul Homer, 80, of Springfield, has died of congestive heart failure.
Born in Buffington, Pa., to Peter and Anna (Onusko) Ho-mer, he married Elizabeth George on Oct. 30, 1943, in Douglas, Wyo.
He served in the U.S. Army 462nd Military Police Escort Guard. He worked in maintenance and security for Tiffany Davis for 18 years and Valley River Center for 17 years.
He enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, University of Oregon sports, church activities, visiting with people at Valley River Center and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church, Promise Keepers, King Choraliers and Immanuel Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth Homer of Springfield, survivors include two daughters: Beatrice Blair (and her husband, DeWayne) and Becky Chastain (and her husband, Thomas), all of Eugene; one son: Stephen Homer (and his wife, Teresa) of Eugene; one brother: Steven Homer of Connellsville, Pa.; one sister: Ann Black of Doylestown, Ohio; as well as four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Twin Rivers Baptist Church.

Carl Sager
June 25, 1909-April 18, 2001
Carl Forrest Sager, 91, of Eugene and formerly of the local area, has died of age-related causes.
Born in Stanberry, Mo., to Levi and Blanche (Marticke) Sager, he married Marie Sager in 1973; she died in 1996.
He worked in construction and later at Weyerhaeuser Co., retiring in 1971.
He enjoyed traveling, shop work, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include two sons: Carl Sager Jr. of Eugene and Jack Sager of Springfield; six stedaughters; one brother: Jack Sager of British Columbia, Canada; two sisters: Billie Helmuth of British Columbia, Canada, and Lee Finkle of Chicago, Ill.; as well as three grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three wives: Myrtle Sager, Bessie Sager and Marie Sager; as well as one stepson.
No services will be held.

Floyd Fassett
Oct. 10, 1922-June 3, 2001
Floyd Eugene Fassett, 78, of Redmond and formerly of Springfield and Lowell, has died of natural causes.
Born in North Dakota to Joseph and Minnie (Pratt) Fassett, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor.
In the late 1940s he was part owner of a logging company, Tong and Hammer.
He also worked for Weyerhaeuser Co.
He enjoyed touring on his motorcycle.
Survivors include one son: Timothy Fassett of Otis; one brother: Richard Fassett of Redmond; as well as six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Wanda; as well as a sister: Joyce Adams.
No services will be held.

Leota Burian
Sept. 12, 1918-Jan. 9, 2002
Leota Esther Burian, 83, of Springfield, has died of age-related causes.
Born in Walker to Charles and Av-rilla (Mosier) Lajoie, she married Nor-man R. Burian on July 7, 1939, in Van-couver, Wash.; he died on Sept. 23, 1996.
A homemaker, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She was a member of Juanita Rebekah Lodge No. 85.
Survivors include two daughters: Mary Troy (and her husband, Harold) of Wenatchee, Wash., and Vickie Litwin (and her husband, Tom) of Newberg; as well as three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister: Bessie; and two brothers: Ted and Clarence.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Saturday) at Major Family Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Laurel Grove Cemetery.

Wyvert Bridges
Jan. 9, 1929-Feb. 11, 2002
Wyvert Eugene Bridges, 73, of Eugene and formerly of Springfield, has died of coronary artery disease.
Born in Hot Springs, Ark., to Robert Wyvert and Nova Ola (Thomas) Bridges, he married Verna Lois Putnam on July 29, 1949, in Springfield.
He moved to Springfield at age 9 and attended Springfield High School.
He worked for a Chevrolet dealership as the paint shop foreman for 48 years, retiring in 1996. In his retirement, he was an interim auto paint instructor at Lane Community College. He trained many apprentice painters and enjoyed helping them obtain successful jobs.
He enjoyed riding in his recreational vehicle, auto racing, his cabin and riding his snowmobile. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his friends and family.
He was a member of the LCC Advisory Board for Auto Technology, Eugene Elks No. 357 and Eugene Eagles Aerie No. 275.
In addition to his wife, Verna Bridges, survivors include one son: Randy Bridges (and his wife, Vicki) of Springfield; one daughter: Gayla Schaumburg (and her husband, David) of Springfield; one sister: Corinne Watson of Campbell, Calif.; as well as three grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. today at Northwood Christian Church, 2425 Harvest Lane, Springfield. A reception will follow.

James Pinion
Dec. 31, 1907-May 30, 2002
James Louis Pinion, 94, of Dexter, has died of pneumonia.
Born in Sparks, Okla., to Miles and Mary (Bailey) Pinion, he married Bessie Anna Sherrick on Dec. 15, 1925, in Klamath Falls; she died on Aug. 20, 1989.
He left Oklahoma on a covered wagon, arriving in the Portland area with his family. He later moved to Ashland and then Klamath Falls, where he lived most of his life.
He worked in the lumber industry and enjoyed lapidary work. He had his own lapidary shop.
Survivors include two daughters: Barbara Scott (and her husband, Lawrence) of Dexter and Louise Brown (and her husband, Joe) of Yreka, Calif.; one sister: Mary E. Puter of Klamath Falls; as well as nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Lily May Lewis, Linda Emma Matthews and Pearl A. Robertson; a granddaughter: Bettina L. Scott; and a great-grandson: Paul W. Reynolds.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Klamath Memorial Park.

Everett Chetwood

Everett Milton Chetwood, 84, of Springfield, has died of congestive heart failure.
Born in Skamokawa, Wash., to Leonard and Nora (Malone) Chetwood, he married Dorothy Jane Karns on Nov. 24, 1938, in Vancouver, Wash.; she died on Jan. 14, 1999.
He attended Springfield High School and later served in the U.S. Navy, earning the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was a logger in the Springfield, Marcola and Wendling area for more than 30 years. He also worked for Borden Chemical Co. for 15 years. He enjoyed football and logging stories.
He was a member of St. Alice Catholic Church.
Survivors include one daughter: Debra Rogers of Eugene; as well as nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son: Michael in 1998; and one daughter: Patricia in 1993.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Alice Catholic Church.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until noon Friday at Major Family Funeral Home.

Norval Mabe

Norval William Mabe, 94, of Springfield, has died of age-related causes.
Born in Walton to Moses and Mahela "Mazie" (Davis) Mabe, he married Vivian Elyzabeth Richards on June 23, 1978, in Eugene.
He was trained and certified in industrial safety engineering and accident prevention.
He worked for Booth-Kelly Lumber Co., the State Industrial Ac-cident Commission for Oregon and part of Washington, State Accident Prevention Division (retiring in 1972), Springfield Police Department and city of Springfield (security).
He enjoyed golfing, gardening with Dwayne Tilley (his neighbor of 41 years), going out to lunch with friends, family activities and sports events including watching his great-grandson play basketball at Churchill High School.
He was a member of the Masons and Fred Meyer Coffee Club.
In addition to his wife, Vivian Mabe of Springfield, survivors include one daughter: Marilyn Bender (and her husband, Leon) of Springfield; as well as two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
No services will be held.

Opal Jackson

Opal M. Jackson, 52, of Springfield, has died of respiratory failure.
Born in Blythe, Calif., to Billy and Marie Mansfield, she married Glenn Jack-son on Jan. 18, 1975, in Turner.
She was a computer keypunch operator in Corvallis and Phoenix, Ariz. and was a day care provider in Springfield for 10 years.
She enjoyed fishing, camping, riding horses and reading books.
In addition to her husband, Glenn Jackson of Springfield, survivors include four daughters: Charlott Jackson and Christina Jackson, both of Springfield, Renee Gee of Bend and Shawna Michealis of Cottage Grove; two brothers: Dennis Mansfield of Turner and Jerry Griffith of Phoenix, Ariz.; as well as nine grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Springfield Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Vivian Mabe
May 6, 1907-June 29, 2001
Vivian E. Mabe, 94, of Springfield, has died of age-related causes.
Born in Rainier to William and Martha (Kilby) Richards, she married Norval Mabe on June 23, 1928, in Eugene; he died on Nov. 11, 2000.
She moved to the local area when she was in high school and after her marriage, she moved with her husband to Booth Kelly Logging Camp No. 3 above Wendling. They later moved to Springfield. She worked at JC Penney Co. and Chase Gardens.
She enjoyed oil painting, ceramics, playing bridge with old friends from Camp No. 3, watching Churchill High School basketball and in earlier years, she loved watching her granddaughter at horse shows.
She was a member of Eastern Star and Ebbert Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter: Marilyn Bender (and her husband, Leon) of Springfield; and her good friend, adopted "son" and neighbor for more than 40 years: Dwayne Tilley of Springfield; as well as two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held.

Annette Minix
March 18, 1931-Aug. 27, 2001
Annette Minix, 70, of LaPine and formerly of Springfield, has died of breast cancer.
Born in Bristow, Okla., to Bentley Edward and Dallah (Mon-tgomery) Sears, she married J.R. Minix in September 1977; he died on June 23, 1994.
She worked for the city of Los Angeles (Calif.) and later worked for the Spring-field City Pro-secutor's Of-fice, retiring in 1986. She moved to La-Pine in 1988.
She enjoyed square dancing, fishing and travel in her motor home with her square dance club.
Survivors include her sister: Betty Woodrell of Bend; one brother: Carlos Sears of Enterprise, Ala.; and two stepsons: Gary Minix of Sacramento, Calif., and Michael Minix of Greenville, S.C.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Billy.
Funeral services were held Friday at the First Baptist Church in LaPine. Burial is at Pilot Butte Cemetery in Bend.

Edwin Eyster

Edwin R. Eyster, 68, of Springfield, has died of unknown natural causes.
Born in Frederickstown, Ohio, to Paul and Leona (Speaks) Eyster, he married Nancy Sprague on June 15, 1957, in Coshocton, Ohio.
He served in the U.S. Army and retired from the U.S. Forest Service in Oakridge.
He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Libby; hunting and fishing; helping those less fortunate; spending time on the Oregon Coast, especially in Florence; and discussing politics.
He was a member of The Nature Conservancy, Green Valley Hunting and Retrieving Club and Northwest Steelheaders.
In addition to his wife, Nancy Eyster of Springfield, survivors include one daughter: Mindy Shank (and her husband, Jim) of Springfield.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Willamalane Senior Adult Activity Center, 215 W. C St.

Emma Jane Carter, 69, of Springfield, has died of breast cancer.
Born in Waterloo to Jeremiah S. and Laura (Beegle) Heyne, she married Robert Dale Carter on July 6, 1950, in Reno, Nev.
She graduated from Lebanon High School. She was a mailroom supervisor for Alaska Highway Department in Juneau, Alaska; an admission clerk for Salem General Hospital; and an emergency room admission clerk for Sacred Heart Hospital.
She enjoyed genealogy, the Atlanta Braves, reading, gardening and traveling.
She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sanborn Family Association.
In addition to her husband, Robert Dale Carter, survivors include two sons: Michael D. Carter of Lebanon and Keevin R. Carter of Eugene; one daughter: Loreen M. Carter Schulzetenberg of Avon, Minn.; one brother: Loren Dale "Jim" Heyne of Puyallup, Wash.; as well as 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Liberty Cemetery Chapel in Sweet Home.

Berniece G. Carroll, 85, of Eugene and formerly of Springfield, has died of age-related causes.
Born in Portland to Shirley and Anna Kirtland, she married Arthur Carroll on Dec. 11, 1959, in Reno, Nev.; he died on Feb. 8, 1986.
She retired from Boeing Inc. in 1983.
She enjoyed animals, ceramics, sewing, yard work and gardening.
Survivors include one daughter: Nancy Ferree (and her husband, Elmer) of Eugene; as well as two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son.
Graveside services were held Monday at Lane Memorial Gardens.

Sylvia Warner

Sylvia Mae Warner, 75, of Springfield, has died of age-related causes.
Born in Park Falls, Wis., to Ora and Gayle (Waits) Dunn, she married Lawrence Warner on June 13, 1948, in Marcola; he died on Aug. 24, 1999.
She worked at the M Street Market for 15 years and Rain-bow Market for 10 years.
She enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, visiting Hawaii, church and bowling.
She was a member of Valley River Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include two sons: Ronald Warner (and his wife, Lori) and Larry Warner (and his wife, Bobbi Bothel), both of Springfield; one daughter: Anna Cordeiro (and her husband, Wayne) of Oahu, Hawaii; four brothers: Ora Dunn of Creswell, Floyd Dunn (and his wife, Mildred) and Lloyd Dunn (and his wife, Emma), all of Swisshome, and Ernie Dunn of Coos Bay; two sisters: Ruby Bond (and her husband, John) of Centralia, Wash., and Louise Mayberry (and her husband, D.J.) of Marcola; as well as six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Major Family Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Chester Calaway

Chester Wilman Calaway, 76, of Springfield, has died of age-related causes.
Born in Cart-hage, Ark., to Doss A. and Louie Mae (Wilson) Cal-away, he married Charlene A. Spencer on July 6, 1987, in Eugene.
He worked for Weyer-haeuser Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1988. He also worked at a cannery for 11 years.
He was a member of the Teamsters.
In addition to his wife, Charlene Calaway of Springfield, survivors include three daughters: Rhonda Calaway of Eugene and Crystal Calaway and Christine Strine, both of Springfield; two sons: Keith Lorance of Washington and Kenneth Strine of Springfield; as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Gerald Calaway in 1964 and Stanley Calaway in 1999; as well as three brothers and two sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Buell Chapel Funeral Home.
Burial will be private.

William Wynne
Oct. 29, 1920-June 9, 2002
William Harding Wynne, 81, of Springfield, has died of age-related causes.
Born in St. Thomas, N.D., to Robert and Marian Adeline (Jackson) Wynne, he married Bev-erly K. Boelk on Oct. 5, 1948, in International Falls, Minn.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1942-45.
He grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Inter-national Falls High School in 1939. He moved to Shell Beach, Calif., in 1951, and in 1955 to Springfield, where he began working for Weyer-haeuser Co. He also worked for Al Clements Mill and for Rosboro Lumber Co. He later became self-employed in real estate.
He played guitar and piano and enjoyed basketball games, working outside and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Beverly Wynne of Springfield, survivors include one daughter: Beth Matthews (and her husband, Michael) of Spring-field; one sister: Corinne Phaklides of Atascadero, Calif.; as well as four grandchildren.
A son, Stephen R. Wynne, died on Jan. 8, 1997.
No services will be held.

Genevra Marie Bruington, 89, of Dexter, has died of age-related causes.
Born in Lark, N.D., to Fred and Matilda (Wright) Nichols, she married Lewis Bruington on March 12, 1930, in Lark, N.D.; he died in 1988.
She was a nurse's aide at Sacred Heart Hospital for 20 years.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, needlework and reading non-fiction books.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Springfield and Fall Creek.
Survivors include two daughters: Mable Shankel of Placerville, Calif., and Leila Gutierrez of Dexter; one son: Paul Bruington of Dexter; one sister: Gladys Nogle of Gresham; as well as 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter: Gayle Browne, and one son: Ward Bruington.
Funeral services were held Monday at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home.

Winifred Prouty

Winifred Prouty, 93, of Baker City and formerly of Springfield, has died of age-related causes.
Born in Joliet, Ill., to Otto and Alice (Carpenter) Sallenbach, she married Kenneth Prouty on Nov. 27, 1929; he preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son: Wesley Prouty of Durkee.

Thelma Alberta Gates, 78, of Marcola, has died of age-related causes.
Born in Marcola to Herman and Gladys (Whitsel) Mason, she married Treston Gates in 1941 in Marcola; he died in January 1970.
She was a Class of 1941 graduate of Mohawk High School.
She worked at Eugene Fruit Growers.
She enjoyed making dolls, crocheting and going to garage sales.
She was a member of the Marcola Christian Church, Mothers Club and Marcola Sewing Club.
Survivors include two sons: Dennis Gates of Springfield and Ron Gates of Mapleton; two brothers: Ivan Mason of Roseburg and Ross Mason of Mill City; as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson: Ace Gates.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Marcola Christian Church.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. today and Thursday at Major Family Funeral Home.

Margaret Marlow

Margaret Louise Marlow, 62, of Roseburg and formerly of Springfield, has died of natural causes.
Born in Carlsbad, N.M., to Henry and Lorraine (Miller) Compton, she married George Junior Marlow in 1953; he died on Feb. 7, 1997.
She was a mill worker, factory worker and home health care provider.
She enjoyed her pets, flowers, traveling, friends and family.
Survivors include two sons: Delbert Marlow of Winchester and George Marlow of Roseburg; one daughter: Darlia Diane Marlow of Winston; one brother: John Lail; two sisters; Linda Galvez and Joyce Crabtree, both of Springfield; as well as eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister: Vicki Walker.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Missionary Baptist Church in Union Gap.

Betty Lou Wyatt, 78, of Springfield, has died of complications of Parkinson's disease.
Born in Eola to Tipton and Beulah (Lewis) Acuff, she married Arthur Gordon Wyatt on Oct. 14, 1943, in Salem.
A homemaker, she enjoyed books and reading all types of literature.
She was a member of Friends of the Corvallis Library.
In addition to her husband, Arthur Gordon Wyatt, survivors include one son: Michael Wyatt of San Diego, Calif.; one daughter: Victoria McMillan of Eugene; one sister: Velma Bihl of Sacramento, Calif.; as well as two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
