King, Rachel Mrs. Rachel King died at home on January 20th and was buried in toledo. She was born in Bourbon county, Indiana in August of 1859, and married Benjamin King on August 29, 1879. Her husband and six children survive her. |
Kinney, Marcissa W. Mrs. Narcissa White Kinney died from paralysis. She was a previous State President for the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. |
Kizor, George W. At Philomath, Oregon, on Saturday, March 28, 1896, Geo. W. Kizor, aged 73 years and one month. The deceased was an old pioneer of Oregon, coming across the plains in 1852, and settled in Benton county the next year. He was born in Ohio in 1823, and in 1846 he was married to Sarah Ann Freel, who still survives him. For many years the deceased has been sorely afflicted, being paralyzed four years ago. Since then he has been a subject of constant care by his family. For several weeks ha has bee on the verge of death, and his children have been constantly by his bedside. He leaves a wife and a family of four sons and three daughters. The remains were interred in the Newton cemetery on Sunday last. Transcribed by Jeannette Harper |
Kizor, Sarah A. At the home of her daughter, Mrs. CG Copeland, in Newport, Oregon, on Friday, June 23, 1911, Mrs. Sarah Ann Kiser, age 82 years, 1 month and 10 days. Deceased was born in Indiana and came to Oregon with her husband in 1852, being a member of one of the many bands of hardy pioneers that crossed the plains that year. She made her home in Oregon since that time, residing for the most part near Philomath. A few years ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis, and being unable to care for herself, was taken by her daughter, Mrs. CG Copeland, to her home, where she was taken care of the balance of her lifetime. During her last years she suffered much, and particularly as the end of her life drew near. Her sufferings were born with a Christian fortitude, and death came to her as a welcome release. Her remains were interred in the Newton cemetery near Philomath last Sunday. Transcribed by Jeannette Harper |
Knudson, Marion At Albany, October 1st 1913, while undergoing an operation for strangulated hernia, Mrs. Marion Knudson, aged 78 years. She was born in Arandal, Norway and came to America about thirty-five years ago. She lived on North Beaver, this county, about twenty-five years. While living on the farm her husband died, leaving an only son, Carl, and his family, who now live at Newport, to mourn their loss. Mrs. Knudson was known for her cheerful disposition and her desire to help the needy and distressed. She had no enemies, but a host of friends. She will be missed. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Chas. T. Hurd at the Presbyterian church. The interrment took place in Eureka Cemetery. The floral offerings were large and beautiful. A large number of friends and neighbors attended the services as last tribut of respect to their departed friend. Transcribed by Jeannette Harper |
Knudson, Ola Ola Knudson died Sunday at her father's home near Ona at the age of 79 years old. She lives in Beaver Creek and was the daughter of Carl Knudson of Winant. She was buried in the Ona cemetery on Tuesday. |
Lancaster, Thomas Thomas Lancaster died at the age of 70 years old at his home in Toledo of heart failure. He leaves a wife, and a daughter, Mrs. John Williams of Elk City. He was buried in the Toledo cemetery. |
Landreth, Ada Mrs. Ada Landreth died on December 31, 1903 and was buried in Newport. Ada Cunningham was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on August 10, 1860, and was married to George Landreth in California on October 23, 1890. She leaves a husband, a son, Earl, and a sister, Mrs. Harriet Hayden of McMinnville. |

Lay, George George Lay A'Necker died last Tuesday morning at the Pioneer rock quarry. He leaves a wife and two children who live in Salem. The remains of the deceased were sent to Salem on Wednesday's train. |
Leabo, Isaac Isaac Leabo died in Larene Washington on May 14, 1899 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. CF Phar. The deceased was 87 years of age and a former resident of this county. He arrived in Oregon in 1847. He leaves a wife and 5 sons and 4 daughters. |
Leabo, Mary Mrs. Mary Leabo died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Jno. McCluskey in toledo. The deceased was 82 years, 11 months, and 18 days old. She was born in Kentucky in 1819, and crossed the pains in 1846. She was the wife of the late Isaac Leabo and the mother of twelve children, nine of whom survive her; Mrs. E. Steen and TM Leabo of Portland; JJ and LJ of Lebanon, NJ of Yaquina; Mrs. VC Wiser of College Park, California; Mrs. H Parr of Lorena, Washington; and Joseph Leabo of Seattle, Washington. Leabo, Noah J. Noah J. Leabo, aged 69 years, died at his home at Yaquina on Wednesday morning, March 18, 1908. Mr. Leabo had been a resident of Lincoln County for many years, and was an honest and upright citizen. He leaves a wife and family of grown children to mourn his (passing.) |

Logan, Pingra Mrs. Pingra Logan died at her home in Siletz a week ago last Wednesday. She died during childbirth. The child lived. |
Logan, WH WH Logan died at home, four miles west of Toledo on January 6, 1899 of pneumonia and lagrippe at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 20 days. He was born in Kentucky on August 15, 1816 and moved to Oregon in 1862. The father of 16 children, he is survived by a wife and 11 children. His remains ere laid to rest in Toledo. |
Loomis John John Loomis, Sr. remains were passed down to Newport from Salem last Saturday. |
Looney, Noel
N. Noel N. Looney, resident of the Siletz for the past eight years, passed
away suddenly last Thursday evening at the Lincoln hospital, following
an emergency operation. Mr. Looney was 63 years of age, was in business
at Corvallis for many years before coming to Siletz, having operated
a cigar factory there. He is survived by his widow. Funeral services
were held at Mayflower chapel Corvallis at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon
with interment in Oaklawn Memorial park. Mr. Looney was a member
of Siletz grange and beloved by the members and other residents of

Lutjens, AH AH Lutjens was found dead in his store on 19 April 1901. The coroner's jury found the deceased killed himself. His nephew, Lester Lutjens last saw AH Lutjens in the store at 8:15pm on the 19th. AH Lutjens boarded at Jacob Holgate's for the past seventeen years, and was a local merchant and postmaster. Capt. Chas. Lutjens from San Francisco took charge of the body, and the deceased was buried at Yaquina Point cemetery. |
Mackay Therese Therese M Mackay died at her home in Corvallis on Sunday, 10 February 1895, aged 53 years, 1 month and 11 days. The deceased was the wife of Wm. Mackay and resided on a homestead near Toledo in 1865 until the family moved to Corvallis in 1886. A husband and 8 daughters are left to mourn her loss. Funeral services were held in the Catholic church in Corvallis. The body was interred in the Catholic cemetery in Corvallis. |
Mackey, Nancy J Mrs. Nancy J. Mackey died at her home in Yaquina on Saturday, January 7, 1899 at the age of 41 years old. She was born in Linn county, Oregon in February of 1858. She leaves a husband, Mike Mackey and a daughter, Oneata Reynolds. She was laid to rest in Albany Oregon. |
Marks, Hans Hans Marks died near this city on 14 May 1901. He leaves a wife and three girls. The remains were buried on the 15th in the Toledo cemetery. |
Mason, Ralph L. Ralph L Mason died at his home in Chitwood on 22 March 1901 at the age of nineteen years old. The cause of death was a tumor of the brain. The body was laid to rest in the Chitwood cemetery. |
May, Della M. Mrs. Della M May died on 23 February 1901 at the residence of her son near Mill 4. The deceased was aged 93 years and 7 months. She was born in Gallatin county, Kentucky and leaves six children: Wm. M, GB, TH May of Delores, Colorado; Mrs. NA Hinkle of Wallace, Idaho; Mrs. Mary A Morgan of White Bird, Idaho and JH May of Mill 4. Her remains were taken to PHilomath and buried in the Pleasant Valley cemetery on 25 February 1901. |
McAlphine, Selma O. TOLEDO - Selma Ogilvie McAlphine, 98, Rt. 3, died Friday at a Newport nursing home. Born in Ohio, she was a resident of Toledo 41 years. Survivors include son, Lester, Toledo; six grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Restlawn Cemetery, Junction City. McCoy, Ellen Miss Ellen McCoy of Salem died at Newport last Sunday morning at about eleven o'clock. Miss McCoy and her aunt were visiting with Mr. Osborne at Nye Creek. The remains were taken to Salem Monday morning for interment. Transcribed by Jeannette Harper |

Mendenhall, Margarite Mrs. Margarite Mendenhall died at the home of her son, FM Wadsworth on Monday, 7 December 1896 at the age of 89 years, 1 month, and 19 days. The deceased came to the Oregon coast in a852 from Illinois. She was buried in the private burial plat on Mr. Wadsworth's farm today. |

Miller, W.A. WA Miller, aged 75 years, died at the home of Larkey Logan February 14 of pneumonia. He was born in Kansas and came to this beautiful valley last fall. Monk, John John Monk died at Chitwood while visiting his sister, Mrs. WE Durkey from Portland. He died on Friday, 9 August 1895 leaving a wife and three daughters to mourn. He was buried in Chitwood. |
Montgomery, Malissa Mrs. Malissa Montgomery died at home, two miles south of Toledo on Wednesday January 11, 1899 of pneumonia and lagrippe. She was the wife of Chas. Montgomery whom she married on March 15, 1874. She was born in King's Valley, Oregon on July 15, 1858. The deceased is survived by her husband and 12 children, one having died. She was laid to rest in Toledo. |

Mulkey, Fernia Fernia Mulkey died at her home on 6 July 1896 at the age of twenty years. She had been married only 11 months to WB Mulkey. Her mother resides in Monmouth. |

Mumford, Col. Hale H. In sorrow and with deep regret we record the passing of a well beloved
citizen of Toledo, Oregon, affectionately known as Col. Hale.
H. Mumford. He died Friday, April 4th, 1947 and his funeral was
held in the Bateman chapel on Tuesday April 8th, 1947, under the
auspices of the Rev. J.M. Wilson, who delivered a most inspiring
sermon, amidst thousands of fragrant flowers, which testified
to the high esteem in which he was held in the community where
he had stamped his impression on so many activities by giving
the best of his manhood to make this a better world in which to

Porter, Elizabeth A. Elizabeth A Porter died at Nortons on July 20, 1898 at the age of 67 years old. The deceased was born in Harrison county, Ohio on November 4, 1831 and married AJ Porter on November 8, 1853. She leaves 3 sons, 6 daughters, 30 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. |
Radir, Will T. Will T. Radir, a former resident of Yaquina and Newport, was found dead, suspected of poisoning by canned goods. |
Raines, RF RF Raines died on March 14 1901 at he age of 72 years old. He was buried in the Toledo cemetery on February 16, 1901. The deceased was born in Schuyler county, Illinois on January 21 1829, and moved to Missouri at the age of ten. At the age of nineteen, he enlisted in the Mexican War. He moved to Oregon in 1851, and served in the Indian War of 1855-56. He took up a donation land claim in Monroe, Oregon after the war, and married JA Canton in 1857 who was the eldest daughter of Rev. Lewis Casteen. The family moved to Yaquina Bay in 1883. Eight children survive him: Mrs. Fremery, Mrs. Laura Matoon of Portland; Mrs. CH Cannon of Salem; Mrs. Joseph Turnidge of Toledo; Mrs. William Ford of Newport; Franklin Raines of Washington; Misses Carie and Bird Raines; step-son, Alfred Canton. |
Ramsdell, Mrs. FM Mrs. FM Ramsdell died at Silverton, Oregon on 20 October 1894. She was the mother of Mrs. Ed Carr of South Beach. Burial took place in Brownsville. |
Rancourt, Leon Leon Rancourt, one of the oldest residents of this bay, died at his home in this city last Tuesday, after a short illness, aged 86 years. Mr. Rancourt spent many years and a fortune propecting for oil in Lincoln county a few years back. He was always a hard working, honest man. He leaves an aged wife to mourn his loss. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to her in this hour of sad affiliction. Funeral services were held yesterday and the remains were laid to rest in Toledo Cemetery. Six children were born to this union but only two are living: Miss Esther is attending school at Chemawa. She leaves a husband, son and a daughter. The deceased was buried in the Siletz cemetery. |
Rexford, Julie Mrs. Julia Rexford died of consumption on January 4, 1901 in Corvallis. She resided at Big Elk in Harlan, and leaves a husband and two small children. |
Ridenour, Vera Vera Ridenour committed suicide on Monday by taking carbolic acid. She was 17 years old, and was the daughter of Mr and Mrs WA Ridenour of Harlan. She was buried in the Harlan cemetery. |
Romtvedt, S S. Romtvedt, Sr. was killed Wednesday evening while chopping down trees on his farm three miles north of Toledo on Depot Slough. His body was found sometime during the evening. The accident apparently was caused by his ax catching on a limb, turning the ax and striking him in the arm severing an artery and causing death by loss of blood. Mr. Romtvedt was about sixty years old and had a family of several children. |
Ruhl, Charles H. At the hospital in Corvallis, Oregon, on Friday, June 23, 1911, Charles H. Ruhl, aged 69 years, 3 months and 11 days. The deceased was born in Pennslvania, March 12, 1842. While a child his parents moved to Bell Plain, Iowa, where they resided for many years, and at which place a son, JH Ruhl, still resides. After passing his young life in Iowa the deceased went to idaho and Montana, where he spent several years on the frontiers, and where he followed mining and stage driving. in 1891 he came to Oregon, settling in Toledo, and for the balance of his life he mad his home in this county. The deceased was a man of more than ordinary character. He was of a disposition that made friends with everybody, and particularly was he a favorite with the children. In Toledo there are several young men and women that will feel that they have lost more than a friend in the passing of Charley Ruhl. Under a somewhat rough exterior beat a heart that was always alive to another's woes or sorrows and no person carried their griefs and troubles to Charley Rugh but what they found a friend and a comforter in so far as it was in his power to comfort. During his long residence in Toledo his position was most unique. Thoroughly trusted by every business man in town, it was no unusual sight to see him in charge of one merchant's business one day, while perhaps the next he would be in charge of the strongest rival's store, and no one objected thereto. He was a guide, counselor and friend to many people, and while he has resided away from Toledo for the past several years, yet there are many in this place that feel keenly his loss. For several years past he has made his home with Mrs. CG Copeland at Newport, and was at her home when his last illness overtook him. His illness was brief and severe. After being sick a few days at Newport it was seen that the proper care could not be given him there and he was sent to the hospital at Corvallis, where he died after being seven days in the hospital. He was buried in the Toledo cemetery on Tuesday, June 27th, the funeral services being held at the ME church in this place, being conducted by Rev. The deceased was a member of the Masonic fraternity of Albany. The remains were laid to rest in the Newport cemetery next to his wife's grave. |
