Tammy Sue Anderson Sept. 11, 1959-Feb. 23, 1999 Tammy Sue Anderson of Albany died Tuesday, Feb. 23, in Salem after a five-year battle with breast cancer. She was 39. She was born in Corvallis, to William and Connie Rampenthal. She attended school in Philomath and graduated from Philomath High School in 1977. She was active in sports including cross country and swimming. She was also a cheerleader. She was offered a swimming scholarship from Oregon State University. She attended Linn-Benton Community College and later OSU. She married Paul Anderson on Feb. 13, 1982, in Philomath. Her husband's work took them to Beaverton in 1989, and they returned to Albany in 1997. She previously worked at the Gazette-Times, and later owned World of Toys in Albany. She enjoyed spending time with her children. She is survived by husband Paul Anderson of Albany; sons Elliott and William Anderson of Albany; daughter Amanda Anderson of Albany; father and step-mother William and Marquita Rampenthal of Corvallis; mother and stepfather Connie and Hugh Lampert of Monmouth; brothers Leo Giles of Atlanta, Rob Drahn of Lincoln City and Ron Rampenthal of Tangent; and sisters Toni Macomb of Molalla, Joanne Heddins of McMinnville, Billie Chairet of Gladstone and Johnie Harp of Philomath. Chester Arthur Poe Jan. 8, 1913-Feb. 23, 1999 Chester Arthur Poe of Albany died Tuesday, Feb. 23. He was 86. He was born in Phillips County, Colo., the youngest son of Herman and Alta Poe. He was educated in Holyoke, Colo. He was an avid sportsman and loved horses. He held the record in his county as a relay rider at fairs for 25 years. He also drove in chariot races. He married Charlene L. Sawin Jan. 13, 1934. They had four children: Shirley R. Kruse, Charlotte L. Fisbeck, Benny A. Poe and Garry A. Poe. Three of them live in Albany. After farming for himself for 28 years, Chester moved his family to Corvallis in March 1956. He worked with the Schrock seed-cleaning plant and then for Oregon State College (now Oregon State University) in farming and later in food service. He worked for the university for 19 years before retiring in 1975. He and Charlene moved to Albany in August 1980. He enjoyed spending time with his family, music, animals and playing pool at the senior center. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at South Albany Community Church. Nathan James Mitsch July 24, 1912-Feb. 19, 1999 Nathan James Mitsch of Albany died Friday, Feb. 19, at Albany General Hospital. He was 86. He was born in Woodbine, Kan., to George and Eleanor Mitsch. He moved from Kansas to Brownsville in 1925, and to Lebanon in 1938. He married Mary Elles Oct. 29, 1938, in Eugene. He moved to Albany in 1970, where he resided since. He was a self-employed building contractor, and built numerous homes in the Lebanon area. He was a member of South Albany Community Church. He is survived by daughters Susan Adams of Albany and Meredith Bolton of Damascus; brother John Mitsch of Canby; sisters Lois Mitsch of Salem, Ruth Calhoun of Canby and Martha Cannon of Lebanon; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Ronald "Rooster" Burdick Ronald "Rooster" Burdick, 47, of Lebanon died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at his home. No formal services will be held. Huston-Jost Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Burdick was born on Aug. 9, 1953, in Lebanon, the son of Andrew and Gwendolin (Henry) Burdick. He lived in the Lebanon and Sweet Home areas throughout his childhood. He entered into the U.S. Marine Corps on Sept. 21, 1970, and was honorably discharged Sept. 12 1972. After being discharged, he moved to California, where he resided until the mid 1990s. He moved back to the Lebanon area five years ago. He worked throughout his career as a cabinetmaker. He was married to Sandy Sanchez in Reno, Nev. on July 6, 1973. They were divorced several years later. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Andy and Norma Burdick of Lebanon; son Chris Burdick of Sacramento, Calif.; sister Shelly Etherton of Lincoln City; and several close friends. His mother, Gwendolin, preceded him in death. Martha E. Downer Scroggin Gonzales Martha E. Downer Scroggin Gonzales, 87, died on Tuesday, Nov. 6. At her request, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. She was born on Oct. 27, 1914, in Portland, the daughter of Lester L. and Corrine N. Irish. The family moved to Colorado, back to Portland, then to West Stayton. She married Seth L. Downer in 1932. They had three children and settled in Lebanon, divorcing in 1957. In 1958, she married Ralph Scroggin, who died in 1973. She married Richard T. Gonzales in 1975 and the marriage was dissolved in 1978. She was employed by the Office of Price Administration as chief clerk of the district, both during and after World War II. Later, she went to work for a private CPA in Lebanon. After several years, she opened her own bookkeeping and accounting service. She was president and district director of the Lebanon Business and Professional Women's Club and was elected Mayor of Lebanon, serving from 1975 to 1976. She was a member and held several offices for the Lioness and Lions clubs in Yachats and West Salem. She is survived by her daughters, Beverly Adams of Grand Forks, B.C., Canada, Janet M. Manning of Keizer and Geraldine L. Lewis of Anchorage, Alaska; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She married John "Jack" Lambert on June 21, 1937, in Walla Walla, Wash. The couple moved to The Dalles in the mid-1940s. They moved to Lebanon in 1960. She moved to Albany two years ago. She was active in the Lebanon P.E.O. and belonged to The Dance Club for many years. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church. Jack Lambert died on March 9, 1978. She married Mike Stroh, who survives her, in 1980. Other survivors include son John Lambert of Bedford, Texas; daughter Judy Lambert of Sacramento, Calif.; brother Arthur Fazzari of Walla Walla, Wash.; sisters Alice Pontarolo and Dorothy Criscola, both of Walla Walla, Wash., and Shirley Beaudry of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Frances Ann Staggs Frances Ann Staggs, 78, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Samaritan Regional Health Center in Corvallis. She was born June 7, 1924, on the family homestead near Kiowa, Colo., the first of three children born to John David and Marion (Lord) Thomas. After she graduated from high school in Littleton, Colo., the family moved to Spokane, Wash., where she worked during the war as an employment secretary at the naval supply depot. She attended business school. She moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and earned a degree from Arizona Bible College. She returned to Spokane to serve as the secretary at Hilyard Baptist Church. On Dec. 2, 1949, she married James J. Staggs. They began raising a family in Spokane before returning to Phoenix. She was a leader in the Pioneer Girls Club, organizing the church club wherever she lived. In 1971 the family moved to Albany, were she was a teacher's aide at Sunrise Elementary for 13 years. Mrs. Staggs is survived by her husband, Jim, of Lebanon; son David Staggs of Lebanon; daughters Esther Hillary of Lebanon and Karen Caswell of Albany; brother David Thomas of Los Alamitos, Calif.; sister Elsie Patterson of Spokane, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren. He has been a resident of Salem since 1968, when he moved from Lebanon. He served in the U.S. Air Force and as a Deputy Sheriff in Linn County in the late 50s and early 60s. Erwin was born April 12, 1916, in Lacomb, the daughter of Lloyd and Mabel (Harden) Henson. She lived in the Lacomb area for a number of years. She moved to Lebanon in 1942, and resided here until her death. She married Arvie Bunch on June 16, 1934, in Albany. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1970. She later married John Erwin on Jan. 24, 1977. He preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1996. He worked for Champion Plywood for 32 years before the mill closed. Then he worked eight years for Willamette Industries, Sweet Home Plywood Division, and later worked for Georgia Pacific Particleboard Division until retiring in October of 1999. He was born Oct. 27, 1932, in Scio, the son of Fredrick and Josephine (Bender) Yost. He worked as a farm hand before entering the United States Navy in 1954. In 1955, he married Janis Sipes in Silverton. They raised four children together. She died before him. In the late 1990s, he married Lois Thom. He worked as a machinist for many years. Mr. Yost was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, St. Edwards Catholic Church in Lebanon. He was active in the Elk's, Shriner's, Eagles and Moose. He is survived by his wife, Lois Yost of Lebanon; children Catherine White of Covington, Wash., Karen Garner and Christopher Yost, both of Spokane, Wash., and Martin Yost of Tukwila, Wash.; step-children Jerald Weigel of Marshfield, Wisc., Teresa Birge of Medford, Wisc. and Penny Weigel of Lebanon; brothers Joseph Yost of Mill City, Frank P. Kathleene May Bishop Kathleene May Bishop, 88, formerly of Lebanon, died Thursday, March 27, at the home of her nephew in Brownsville. A graveside service was held at the Lebanon I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Lebanon. She was born May 14, 1914, in Lincoln, Ark., the daughter of George W. and Lillie Bertha (Goldman) Bell. On Nov. 17, 1930, she married William Joseph Bishop, in Stillwater, Okla. The moved to Lebanon in 1979. Her husband died on Jan. 2, 1990. She had most recently lived with her nephew in Brownsville. Mrs. Bishop is survived by brother Joe Bell of Missouri; sisters Bobbie Balding of Santa Cruz, Calif., Betty Strider of California, and Diana Ward of Lebanon; and nephew and his wife Steve and Robyn Edding of Brownsville. Two brothers and four sisters died before her. Glenna C. Lee Glenna C. Lee, 69, of Lebanon died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at the Mennonite Home in Albany. Funeral Services were held Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Huston-Jost Funeral Home. Lee was born February 12, 1931, in Oklahoma, the daughter of John and Pauline (Jones) McGehee. She married Jesse Lee on March 25, 1950. They moved to Oregon in 1960. In 1962, they moved to California, where they lived six years before moving back to Lebanon. Lee moved to Willamette Manor in Lebanon in 1997 and later moved to the Mennonite Home in Albany. Lee enjoyed rock hunting the agate beds with her father. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and listening to music. She was an avid bowler while in California. She was a member of Eastern Star, a homemaker and mother of five children. Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Lee; brother Frank McGehee of Oakdale, Calif.; and father John McGehee. He was born in Ute, Iowa, the son of C.T. "Hoot" and Laura (Nathlich) Bresler. He moved to Oregon with his parents in 1941. He graduated from Eugene High School. He attended the University of Oregon, studying architecture, before joining the U.S. Navy Air Corps. Following the service, he moved to the Portland area and attended Vanport College. Bresler married Patricia Mauney on Nov. 22, 1950, in Eugene. The couple moved to Lebanon in 1952. He worked as a shoe manager for Britton's Department Store. He owned and operated a surplus store, Bresler's PX. He became sales manager for Bird Chevrolet, and later held a real estate broker's license. He was a member and Past Master of Lebanon Masonic Lodge 44 and a member of Bailey Chapter Royal Arch Masons, Baker Valley Scottish Rite, Al Kader Shrine Temple, Marguerite Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and Lebanon Elks Lodge 1663. He served on the Linn County American Cancer Society Board of Directors. He was a member of the Oregon Pilots Association and the Metolius Home Owners Association. He was also a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife, Patty, of Lebanon; daughters Amy, of Albany, Terry Potter, of Eugene; sons Michael, of Princeton, N.J., and Shawn, of Powell Butte; and three grandchildren. She married Joseph Murphy in Welkenraedt on July 31, 1945. They moved to Seattle Wash., in 1947. From 1950 to 1956, the couple farmed in California, Montana and Halsey. In 1965, they moved to Renton, Wash. They lived in Brownsville and Seattle Wash., from 1960 to 1969. In the early 1980s, she was the hostess and curator for the Moyer House in Brownsville. She moved into Corvallis Manor in 1989. Her husband died on Sept. 15, 1993. She was a member of the Catholic Church and attended Holy Trinity Mission in Brownsville and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corvallis. She is survived by her sons, Daniel Murphy of Albany and Michael Murphy of Beaverton, and grandchildren Jordan, Peter and Alla Murphy. A brother, Leo Celen, died in a German prison camp. He worked as a timber faller for Snow Peak Logging for many years until 1979. He was an active member of Lacomb Baptist Church and Lebanon First Baptist Church. He served as a board member and trustee and taught Sunday school at both churches. He is survived by his wife, Evalina of Lebanon; daughters Donna Lee Jackson of Columbus, Ohio, and Sandra Kay Massey of Springfield; sister Winona Romane of Eugene; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He worked for Willamette Industries Plywood Mill in Foster for many years. On Oct. 6, 1959, he married Rachel Jones, in Stevenson, Wash. She died on Nov. 27, 1994. He was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers. She was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Lacomb, the daughter of Wayne and Rachel (Hyder) Downing. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1935. She married Erwin Walen in Albany. She was a member of the Lebanon Business and Professional Women and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She is survived by her sister, Gladys Sanderson, of Roseburg, and numerous nieces and nephews. He participated in the construction of the Tillamook Blimp Base. He served in the Pacific on the USNTC Farragnt, USS Goshen, and the USS Aldria. He was discharged from service as a Quarter Master 3/c, in 1946. He married Barbara Johnson in 1951. They had five children. He received a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Missouri in 1957. He studied one year of Business Administration at the University of Idaho, and later received a post-graduate degree from Columbia University in New York. He lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, for 22 years. He recently moved to Lebanon to be near children and grandchildren. He is survived by sons Jeffery Buky of Midvale, Utah, and Kyle Buky of Florence; daughters Kimberly Tansek of Monroe, Mich., Pamela Morgan of Lebanon, Karyn Soma of Bend; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. William F. "Bill" Peden William F. "Bill" Peden, 75, of Junction City died on Saturday, June 8 [2002] of cancer. Peden was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Myrtle Point the son of Chet and Agnes (Tripp) Peden. He spent his summers in Coast Range logging camps, where his father was a logger and his mother worked in the cookhouse. As a teenager, he herded cattle on a ranch near Powers. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1945. After serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1945 to 1947, Peden married Elizabeth "Betty" Irvine, his high school sweetheart, on June 15, 1947. He attended Oregon State University, where he played football and earned a master's degree in education. Peden was hired as a teacher and coach at Junction City High School in 1952. He spent nearly half a century teaching at the school, regularly substituting in classrooms even after his 1990 retirement. This spring, agriculture students voted him an honorary member of Junction City High School's Future Farmers of America Chapter. Peden was best known for his 32 years as a coach. When he retired, the football field was renamed in his honor. He was an elder at First Christian Church and a member of the Lion's Club, the Oregon High School Coaches Association, and the Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters Vickie Swan and Pam Peden, both of Junction City; son Jeff of Hillsboro; daughter Barbara Hyne of Walterville; and four grandchildren. She was an avid swimmer, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She graduated from Oregon College of Education with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and received her Masters in Education from Oregon State University. She was an elementary teacher in the Sweet Home District for 32 years in first to seventh grade. She also taught special reading and was an elementary school counselor. She married David C. Powell on Aug. 22, 1947, in Lebanon. She was a member of the Lebanon Evangelical Church, provided flower arrangements weekly and served as the church organist/pianist. After retirement, she and her husband made 20 trips to mission fields in 12 foreign countries. They moved to Lebanon, where they have lived since. She died Sept. 1, 1998. He worked for Champion International Plywood for 35 years before retiring in 1980. On Nov. 22, 1950, he married Dorothy Train in Lebanon. He worked for Corvallis Plywood for 16 years and at the same time he worked as a self-employed general contractor. He built more than 45 homes as well as several commercial buildings. He built the Twin Cedars Mobile Home Park in Lebanon, the WiNeMa Christian Camp at Cloverdale and numerous residential homes for the forest service. She belonged Faith Lutheran Church and Chapter E.Z. of P.E.O. She was a volunteer for Linn County CASA which provides help for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system. He moved to Oregon in 1929 and worked in road construction most of his life. He was a longtime member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local No. 701. Mr. Beemer married Eleanor Lent 57 years ago. Roderick `Rod' Brenneman Jr. April 23, 1943 - March 18, 2000 Roderick "Rod" Lee Brenneman Jr., 56, of Albany died Saturday at home following an apparent heart attack. Mr. Brenneman was born in Lebanon and lived in Corvallis, where he attended schools. He graduated from Heston Mennonite High School in Heston, Kan., attended Heston Mennonite College for two years, and returned to Oregon to attend Oregon State University. Mr. Brenneman worked for his father at Georgia Pacific Plywood at Camp Adair. He married Dianne Harris Feb. 15, 1964, in Albany. They lived in Springfield before moving to Albany in 1965. They lived briefly in San Francisco, while he attended and graduated from San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. Mr. Brenneman had started his funeral services apprenticeship in Springfield and continued it at AAsum Funeral Home in Albany. After graduating from college and receiving his license as a funeral director and embalmer, he continued to work for AAsum's through 1979. While an apprentice, he had worked for Lemons Millwork as well. In 1980 he started Brenneman Construction, building homes until 1983. He then went to work for State Savings and Loan, which became Freedom Federal Savings and Loan and, later, Washington Federal Savings & Loan. Mr. Brenneman was corporation vice president for Washington Federal Savings & Loan. He worked in the banking business until 1997, when he went to work for Action Mortgage. In 1999 he became a partner and part owner of Westridge Investment, where he was employed at the time of his death. He was active in the Albany First Assembly of God. and served on the Albany City Planning Commission for many years. Active at one time in the Albany Jaycees, he had served as vice president of the Timber Carnival. Surviving are wife Dianne; sons Kristopher and Andrew, both of Albany; daughter Lynn Villemyer of Washougal, Wash.; parents Roderick Sr. and Audrey Brenneman of Corvallis; brother Tom of Salem; sister Billie Williamson of Seal Rock; and two grandchildren. Neal Harley Clausing July 22, 1937 - March 19, 2000 Neal Harley Clausing, 62, of Albany died Sunday. He was born in Portland, the son of Oscar and Violet (Klueber) Clausing. He grew up and finished school in Portland, and joined the Army. After serving in Germany, he returned to Portland and worked as a produce clerk for Fred Meyer. He married Nickie Jensen Jan. 23, 1959, in Vancouver, Wash. They moved to Oregon City in 1972, to Lincoln City in 1979, to Corvallis in 1984, and to Albany in 1993. Mr. Clausing worked in Oregon City for United Grocers Warehouse. In Lincoln City he owned Sea Echo Motel and later the Nidden Hof Motel. After a year of retirement, Mr. Clausing went to work at the produce section at Safeway in Corvallis. He retired from Safeway in 1996. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, walking and camping. Surviving are wife Nickie; sons Scott of Lincoln City and Robert of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother Oliver of Gresham; and sisters Grace Hurl, Janet Hildenbrand and Karen Pagh, all of Portland, and Ruby McCormick of Vancouver, Wash. Fisher March 30, 1932 - March 17, 2000 CORVALLIS - Kenneth Ward Fisher, 67, of Corvallis died Friday at home. He was born in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of William Kenneth and Artie Washington (Ward) Fisher. He enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and attended airplane electrician school in Florida. He was discharged in 1955. Mr. Fisher worked for Douglas Aircraft as a flight test electrician at Edwards Air Force Base in Lancaster, Calif. He left the aircraft industry to work in the wrecking yard business in Gardena, Calif. In 1971 he settled in Corvallis; he opened Ken Fisher Auto and Truck Repair in 1982. He especially enjoyed working around his property and working on son Tony's drag-race car. He liked guns. Mr. Fisher was married Oct. 4, 1959, in Las Vegas, and his wife, Diana, survives. She retired from the Smith River branch of the Post Office in 1970. She was a very active member of the Smith River Methodist Church. She liked to knit, crochet and garden.
