He was born at Ashtabula, O., in 1853, being the son of Thomas and Rachel Lucas. He crossed the plains to Oregon during the Summer of 1854, settling in the Willamette Valley where he was married in 1859 to Miss Adelaide, daughter of Leonard and Emily Williams, pioneers of 1847. In 1862 he caught the gold fever, coming to Auburn, in this county, where he engaged in placer mining. With his son, Andrew, he engaged in farming in Harney County for a few years, but in recent years was interested with his son in the stock business in Sumpter Valley. He is survived by a son and daughter, Andrew, of this place, and Mrs. T. J. Bibbly, of Ontario, at whose home he died of heart failure. He was 79 years of age.
