Arthur Merwin Dec. 4, 1934; Oregonian, p 18 "Arthur Merwin Pioneer of 1868 Dead at Baker" Baker, Dec. 3 One of the oldest marriage records in the state was broken here Saturday by the death of Arthur "Tod" Merwin, Baker county's second oldest pioneer. He and Cerestia Wait were married in Lawrence, Kan., April 6, 1866, and left in a covered wagon for Oregon two years later. Mr. Merwin was born in Ohio, June 24, 1840, and enjoyed a spectacular career as wagonmaster and part owner of an ox train that traveled from Fort Leavenworth to Salt Lake, a trip that took all summer, and in which Indians on the warpath often figured excitingly.
