Newspaper Obituary:
5-11-53-14- Etta O. Henkle born May 30, 1862, Warren, Lee County, Iowa; died November 16, 1938 at Independence, Polk County, Oregon; married May 30, 1884 to Oregon pioneer of 1853. He was born William H. Walker, son of J.T. Walker February 11, 1857 on the Walker land claim in Benton County, Oregon. No Issue.

William H. Walker removed too Independence, Oregon in 1890. He entered the Grocery business with his brother-in-law Eli Henkle who soon sold his interest to Sida B. Walker the business being conducted under the name of Walker Brothers, until it was sold to Douty and Paddock. The Walker brothers bought land near by and were engaged in hop growing. William H. Walker soon bought his brother's interest and after five or six years leased the business to the Seavey-Walker Organization.

William H. Walker became quite promiment socially as well as wealthy. He was a bank director and served several terms as Mayor of Independence, joined the Lyon Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Adah Chapter of the Eastern Star; Valley Lodge of Odd Fellows; Rebeccas; Knights of Pythias; Kill-Kare and the Whist Clubs. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was buried in the Mt. Union Cemetery near Corvallis, Oregon.
