Harriet A. Bowen Nov. 9, 1916; Oregonian, p 18 "Pioneer Dies At Monroe" Monroe, Or., Nov. 8 Mrs. Harriet A. Bowen, one of the pioneers of Oregon, died suddenly in this city on Saturday, November 4, of apoplexy. Mrs. Bowen was born in 1845, and crossed the plains with her parents at the age of 6, by ox team, spending six months on the trip. The family of parents and 10 children settled on a donation claim in Linn County, near Lebanon. Mrs. Bowen spent most of her school days in Corvallis with her sister, Mrs. Judge Odeniel, later moving to Monroe, where she was wedded in 1864 to W. F. Bowen. To this union seven children were born, four of whom are living, Charles D., of Lind, Wash.; Hugh, of Lebanon; Harrison Bowen and Mrs. Effie St. Clair, of Monroe, Or. Her husband died in 1880. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Monroe Monday, with interment in the Monroe Cemetery.
