Martha Burnett July 10, 1923; Oregonian, p 6 Corvallis, Or., July 9 Mrs. Martha Burnett, Oregon pioneer of 1846, died at her home in Corvallis Friday. She was the widow of John Burnett, once judge of Benton county, justice of the Oregon supreme court ex-officio judge of the second judicial district, state senator for four years and chairman of the judiciary committee. Mrs. Burnett was born in Franklin county, Missouri, September 28, 1838, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Hinton and crossed the plains while she was 8 years old. The family settled first in Yamhill county. Mr. Hinton later took a donation land claim one mile north of Monroe and Mrs. Burnett's brother located on the present site of Monroe. Mrs. Burnett is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Ida B. Callahan, ex-president of the Oregon Federation of Women's clubs and Mrs. R. H. Huston of Corvallis, and two sons, Brady Burnett of Roseburg and Bruce Burnett of Portland.
