John G. Flook Jan. 31, 1926; Oregonian, p 28 John G. Flook, an Oregon pioneer of 1850, died at his home in Corvallis, Or., January 24, and was buried at Roseburg, Or., his former home, January 26. Mr. Flook was born in Ohio in 1839. He came across the plains to Oregon with his parents and settled in Douglas county on a farm near Roseburg. In 1868 he was elected to the legislature from Douglas county and fathered the bill which ultimately brought into existence the Oregon Agricultural college. In the early '70s he established the first flouring mill at Roseburg. After disposing of his interest in the flour mill, he organized the J. G. Flook Planing Mill company at Roseburg, which still bears his name. Later moving to Corvallis, he became an active member of the Grand Army of the Republic post there. The last public function Mr. Flook attended was "The Oregonian Jubliee" held in Portland in November. A widow and two daughters, Miss Ellen Flook of Corvallis and Mrs. A. P. Fulkerson of Portland, survive. Comments
