David Hawley April 19, 1913; Oregonian, p 5 "Pioneer of 1848 is Dead" Monroe, Or., April 17 David Hawley, a pioneer of 1848, died at his home near Bellfountain, April 12. Mr. Hawley was born in Licking County, Ohio, in 1828, and came to Oregon with his parents. He was married in July, 1858, to Miss Ellen Freel. Four children survive him, Mrs. Lusetta Myers, of Hanford, Cal.; H. C. Hawley and Mrs. Iola Graves, of Alpine, and Mrs. Jessie Powell, of Albany. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Sarah Rycraft, of Alsea; a brother, L. H. Hawley, of Blodgett; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral took place from the Methodist church in Bellfountain last Sunday, Rev. M. M. Waltz and Rev. Crozier officiating.
