"Octogenarian Pioneer of Philomath Dies at Old Home There"

   Norris P. Newton, 81 years old, an Oregon pioneer of 1848, died at his home here last Thursday.
   Mr. Newton was born in Licking County, Ohio, April 18, 1830, and crossed the plains with his parents in 1848.  After a short stay in Iowa he settled in Benton County, which was his home continuously.  He married Justine Knotts, September 3, 1853.  She and six children survive him.
   The children are:  Mrs. Cynthia E. Hinkle, Abithar Newton and Walter H. Newton, of Philomath; Harvey C. Newton and Ernest P. Newgon of South Bend, Wash.; Mrs. Laura Haines, of Forest Grove, Or.
