John C. Wells May 9, 1915; Oregonian, p 9 "Benton Pioneer Passes" Corvallis, Or., May 8 John C. Wells, one of Benton county's earliest pioneers, passed away at his home in this city on Wednesday of this week. He had been a continuous resident of this county since 1852. He was born in Kentucky in September, 1832, and in the Spring of 1852 Mr. Wells came with his family by ox team to Oregon. His father took up a donation land claim five miles west of Philomath, and the following years Mr. Wells filed on the claim adjoining his father's homestead. In 1863 he married Elizabeth King and is survived by his widow and ten children, all of whom are married.
