James A. Beeler April 5, 1931; Oregonian, p 17 St. Helens, Or., April 4 James A. Beeler, one of the few surviving veterans of the civil war, died at his home in Warren last Monday. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon from White's chapel in St. Helens. Mr. Beeler was born at Speedwell, Tenn., November 28, 1844, and at the age of 19 years enlisted in company C, 8th Tennessee volunteer infantry of the union army. He later was taken prisoner, but escaped while being transferred from Libby prison to Pemberton and, after many hardships, rejoined his regiment. After the war Mr. Beeler returned to Tennessee and was married to Miss Elizabeth Honeycutt. In 1870 the family moved to Liberty, Neb., where Mrs. Beeler died in 1872. In 1876 he was married to Miss Esther Lynch of Pawnee City. In 1904 they moved to Warren, Or., where they have since resided. Besides his widow he is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Sally Housley, Freedom, Neb.; Daniel Beeler, Meeker, Okla.; Brice Beeler, Hillsboro, Or.; J. E. and Archie of St. Helens and Frank of Warren, Mrs. J. C. Kelly, Portland; Mrs. G. H. Mitchell, Wenatchee, Wash.
