Elihu Stout Bryant March 6, 1923; Oregonian, p 14 Clatskanie, Or., March 3 Elihu Stout Bryant, for more than 60 years a resident of Clatskanie, died Saturday night at 9 o'clock at his home here, following a week's illness. Mr. Bryant was born in Crawfordsville, Ind., March 22, 1843, and would have been 80 years old March 22. He and his father came across the plains with an ox team in 1852 and settled for abut a month where Portland now is. He then came on to Clatskanie, which was first called Bryantville. The town of Clatskanie is now situated on the elder Bryant donation land claim. Mr. Bryant for many years operated sawmills along the Clatskanie river. Mr. Bryant was married to Mary C. Murray in 1871, and 12 children were born to this union. Besides the widow four girls and four boys survive. They are Mrs. J. R. Sullivan of Clatskanie; Mrs. Robert E. Wiles of Portland, Mrs. Annie Tapley of Aberdeen, Mrs. Ruth McElwain of Clatskanie, Ernest Bryant of Clatskanie, Bert Bryant of Aberdeen, Sumner Bryant of North Bend and Ray Bryant of Clatskanie. Business houses closed for the funeral today.
