Samuel K. Hudson Oct. 26, 1906; Oregonian, p 9 (photo) "Oregon Pioneer and Indian War Veteran Dead" Hudson, Or., Oct. 25 The remains of Samuel K. Hudson, an Oregon pioneer and Indian War veteran, who died October 20, at his home in Beaver Valley, of acute indigestion, were laid to rest in the family lot in Woodbine Cemetery, at Hudson, Or., Tuesday, October 23 at 2 P.M. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Kemp of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Rainier. Mr. Hudson was born January 16, 1820, in Alabama. He went from Alabama to Arkansas while a young man, where he married Miss Nancy Murdock in 1848. They crossed the plains by ox team to Oregon in 1852. He took up a donation claim in Cowlitz County, Washington, on Arkansas Creek, which he named for his home state. In 1868 he moved to Columbia County, Oregon, where he had since resided, a respected and prominent citizen. He lived an upright Christian life and was known far and wide for his hospitality and generosity. His wife died June, 1887. He was the father of ten children, seven of whom survive him, as follows: Samuel Hudson, of Milton, Or.; Francis Hudson, of Maygers; James Hudson, of Hudson; Mrs. S. H. Tryon, of Sacramento, Cal.; Mrs. J. H. Elwell, of Rice, Wash.; Mrs. P. W. Washburn, of Maygers; Mrs. T. J. Everman, of this city. Mr. Hudson was a member of the Indian War Veterans and Oregon Pioneers, in both of which he took an active interest.
