Cuthbert Stump January 9, 1916; Oregonian; Sec. 1, p 8 (photo) "Scappoose Pioneer Passes Away, Due to Attack of Whooping Cough" St. Helens, Or., Jan. 8 Cuthbert Stump died at his home near Scappoose on Thursday night. He was born in Missouri in 1847 and crossed the plains to Oregon with his parents, drawn by an ox team, in 1851. He located at Vancouver, Wash., and had resided between that place and Scappoose ever since. He had a home also on Sauvie's Island. He was recognized as one of the splendid old pioneers of that section. Some three years ago he contracted whooping cough from his grandchild and had never fully recovered from its effects. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. S. W. Saxton, of Yankton, and Mrs. H. Steelman, of Portland. He was interred in Fairview Cemetery at Scappoose Saturday.
