Charles H. Peirce May 30, 1897; Oregonian, p 3 Captain C. H. Peirce died at his home on Sixes river, in Curry county, on the 18th last, at the age of 74. He served both in the Mexican and the civil war, his public career covering a period of 40 years. After leaving the military service, Captain Peirce entered the lighthouse service, first at Yaquina bay, and afterward at Cape Blanco, where he served faithfully several years, when declining health admonished him to retire to private life, and he moved with his family to a pleasant and comfortable home on Sixes river.
