Martin Anderson Lucas Aug. 25, 1934; Oregonian, p 12 (photo) "Death Takes Veteran" Canyon City, Or., Aug. 24 Martin Anderson Lucas, one of the last three civil war veterans of Grant county, died Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Clark. Mr. Lucas was born December 8, 1842, in Tyrone county, Ireland. He came to the United States with his mother at the age of 10, when they settled in Boston, Mass. On the first call for volunteers by President Lincoln he enlisted in company A, 2d Vermont infantry, for three months. Later he re-enlisted for the duration of the war. After his discharge from the army he was called to Camp Harney, in Harney county, which he helped to build. He had been a resident of grant county for 70 years. He had a life membership in the Elks lodge, and the Elks lodge of Baker, Or., conducted the funeral rites. Relatives surviving him are Mrs. George Clark and Mrs. W. S. Fields of Canyon City. Mrs. A.
