John Luelling April 10, 1910; Oregonian, p 2 "Luelling Fought Mexico" Prairie City, Or., April 9 John Luelling, a veteran of the Mexican War, died at the home of his son, Abe Luelling, March 31. Mr. Luelling was born in Randolph County, Indiana, August 5, 1812. He crossed the plains with an ox team in 1852, and settled in Powell Valley, near Portland. He was among the first in the great Boise mine rush in 1863. His first vote was for William Henry Harrison for President in 1863. He moved to Hardman, Morrow County, in 1871, where his wife died in 1890. She is buried in the Hardman Cemetery. Mr. Luelling was the father of 10 children, four of whom still live, William Luelling, of Troutdale; Mrs. Edith Haskins, of Hardman, and Abe and Ben Luelling, of this place.
