George Rader "Grant County Pioneer who is Death at Age of 70" Long Creek, Or., July 5 George Rader, a prominent citizen of Grant county, died at his ranch home three miles north of Long Creek June 24. George (Pap) Rader, as he was familiarly known to everyone in his community, was born in Rockville, Ind., August 12, 1840. On May 21, 1860, he started with an ox team across the plains and arrived in California the evening before Abraham Lincoln's election. On July 4, 1862, he arrived in Canyon City, Or., and engaged in mining, which occupation he also followed at Susanville, Or., until the year 1876, when he settled on a homestead near Long Creek and turned his attention to stock raising. Prosperity attended his wisely directed efforts and tireless thrift, and at the time of his death he was one of Grant county's most respected citizens and largest taxpayers. He is survived by his widow, Eugenie F. Rader; one son, Frederick Wilfred, and one daughter, Mrs. Jean Rader-Meyer.
