Deacon J. N. McCoy Feb. 14, 1899; Oregonian, p 6 Hood River, Or., Feb. 13 Deacon J. N. McCoy, an old and highly esteemed resident of this place, died yesterday after an illness of five days, of cerebral apoplexy. He received the first stroke in Portland, December 29, but rallied from it; the second stroke proved fatal. Deacon McCoy was born near Cincinnati, O., in 1826, and during his early manhood he was an associate of General U. S. Grant. The greater part of his life was spent in Illinois. He was married twice. His wife, Mrs. Rose McCoy, and five children, William H., of The Dalles; John C., of Hood River; E. E., of Seattle; Mrs. M. N. Jones, of Portland, and Mrs. Minnie Odell, of Hood River, survive him. He had for many years been a member of the Congregational church. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow from the Congregational church, Hood River, Rev. J. L. Hershner officiating. Interment in Idlewilde cemetery.
