Sarah (Barlow) Gaines July 19, 1894; Oregonian, p 3 "Another Pioneer Dead" Oregon City, July 18 William Barlow, of Barlow, was in this city today making arrangements for the funeral of his sister, Mrs. Sarah Gaines, who died at Grant's Pass this morning. The funeral will be at the Baptist church in this city tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock. The body is now on its way and is expected to arrive on the morning train. Mrs. Gaines was 73 years old at the time of her death, and was an old pioneer in the state, having crossed the plains with her family in 1845, after which she lived in Yamhill county till about 10 years ago, since which time she had lived with her children, most of this period with her daughter, Mrs. George B. Curry, of Grant's Pass, at whose home she died. She leaves, besides her brother in Barlow, two sons in business in California, and two daughters, Mrs. Curry, and Mrs. William Reinhart, of Seattle. Superintendent Gibson has issued his announcement for the annual teachers' institute, which is to be held in this city, beginning July 30, and continuing til August 7. He has engaged several good institute workers, and expects to have several evening lectures.
