Sarah E. Knox Jan. 31, 1915; Oregonian, p 12 (photo) "Pioneer Southern Oregon Woman Dies at 84 in Grants Pass" Grants Pass, Or., Jan. 30 Sarah E. Knox, 84 years old, one of the best known of the pioneer women of Southern Oregon, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dora Matney, in this city Friday morning. In 1853 the Knox family crossed the plains from Illinois to Oregon, settling first in the Willamette Valley, near the present town of Cottage Grove. In 1860 they came to Southern Oregon, and located upon the homestead in the Applegate Valley, the Knox home since that time. Mrs. Knox is survived by six sons, three daughter, 53 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren. She also leaves two brothers and four sisters.
