She was born at Muscatine, Ia., May 22, 1824, and was a daughter of J. B. Walling, who removed to Oregon with his family and located on a donation land claim near Amity, Yamhill County. "Grandma Loosley," as she was familiarly known to many people in recent years, was married to John Loosley, a native of England, who had migrated to Oregon and located near McMinnville in 1854. John Loosley was a miller by trade. In 1872 he migrated with his family to Wood River Valley and assisted in constructing the first mill east of the mountains in Southern Oregon at Klamath Agency. Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Loosley, seven sons and five daughters, ten of whom survive. Thirty-one grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren are living.
