Hardy S. Newton Aug. 13, 1932; Oregonian, p 10 "Klamath Pioneer Dead" Klamath Falls, Or., Aug. 12 Hardy S. Newton, 80, pioneer of Klamath county, died Wednesday in this city. Death resulted from complications after Mr. Newton broke his leg four weeks ago. One of Mr. Newton's chief amusements during the past year was to tell how, of all the things he had accomplished in his life, the one he was most noted for in this district was the fact that he broke his neck a year ago and completely recovered from the accident. Mr. Newton came to Oregon with his family in a covered wagon in 1887, settling first in Oregon City, and then moving to Klamath Falls in 1893. He and his wife lived in Ashland for several years, returning to make their home near Merrill about ten years ago. He was a native of Gainesville, Tex., having been born there December 24, 1851. He married Fanny Miller at Gainesville in 1874. Mr. and Mrs. Newton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary eight years ago. Survivors include his widow, a sister, four daughters and four sons. His children are Mrs. A. G. Colson, Mrs. L. R. Harvey of Klamath Falls; Mrs. Charles Judkins, Ashland; Mrs. Arthur Sherman, San Martin, Cal.; Thomas W., Almo H. and James Newton of Merrill, and O. H. Newton of Klamath Falls. Funeral services were held today, with the Rev. Stanley Jewell of the Presbyterian church officiating. Interment was in Mount Laki cemetery.
