Stephen Stukel Aug. 16, 1917; Oregonian, p21 "Klamath Pioneer Dies" Klamath Falls, Or., Aug. 15 Stephen Stukel, one of the oldest pioneers of Klamath County and identified with its development in many ways, died at 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning at his home near Merrill, south of this city, aged 76. Mr. Stukel was born in Austria in 1841 and came to Klamath County as a bugler in the company of O. A. Stearns, of this city, in 1865. At the close of the Modoc War he entered the Indian service on the Klamath Reservation. Stukel, south of this city, was named in his honor. He is survived by sons, Joseph, Fred and Stephen, and daughters, Mrs. S. M. Heller, of Iowa, and Mrs. G. W. Wilson and Mrs. Bert Davis of Merrill.
