Mary Metzker

   Mrs. Mary Connor Metzker, who died at Lakeview August 16, was the last of a family of 11 children.  She was born in Washo county, Ohio, July 25, 1822.  She resided at her birthplace until 1830, when she removed to Washington county, Ia.  She was married to John Metzker April 25, 1841, and lived in Washington county three years.  The Metzkers then removed to Mahaska county, Iowa, where they resided nine years, emigrating to the Willamette valley, Oregon, in 1852.  They left the Willamette for Surprise valley in 1870, and after a residence there of 17 years moved to Lake county.  Mrs. Metzker was the mother of 17 children, 10 of whom are living.  The children who survive her are Mrs. J. M. Waters and Mrs. J. Jones, of Portland; Mrs. J. E. Brown, of Sheridan; Mrs. J. F. Toney and Mrs. H. Hobbs, of Surprise valley; Mrs. G. N. Alder, of Ventura county, California; Mrs. W. F. Petree, William, James and Charles Metzker, of Lakeview.
