Thomas Morgan Oct. 12, 1918; Oregonian, p 13 "Heppner Pioneer Passes" Heppner, Or., Oct. 11 Thomas Morgan, an Oregon pioneer, died at his home in this city Wednesday at the age of 76. He was born in Illinois and crossed the plains to Oregon with his father at the age of 10, his mother passing away on the trail before the long journey was completed. The family first settled in the Willamette Valley, near Corvallis. Early in life young Morgan engaged in the stage-driving business and drove from The Dalles to Canyon City for several years at a time when stage-driving included Indian fighting. About 40 years ago Mr. Morgan gave up the stage business and engaged in sheep ranching in what is now Morrow County. He had been a resident of Heppner for about 39 years. Mr. Morgan was married twice. His first wife died some 30 years ago. His second wife and four children survive. The latter are: Mrs. Elmer Slocum, of Lexington; S. Marcellus Morgan, of Arlington; James T. Morgan, of Heppner, and Mrs. Lee Slocum, also of Heppner.
