Francis C. Bramlet March 24, 1911; Oregonian, p 7 "Wallowa Pioneer Dead" Wallowa, Or., March 23 Francis C. Bramlet, 83 years old, who died in Lower Valley, this county, March 15, was an early pioneer of this county, being the third man to bring his family into the valley. Mr. Bramlet came to Wallowa in 1872 and was the first postmaster in Wallowa County, experiencing several remarkable escapes in the Indian disturbances that followed the encroachments of the white settlers on the privileged hunting grounds of old Chief Joseph. Once the pioneer postmaster was compelled to load the entire postoffice on a wagon and make haste to escape from the redskins. Mr. Bramlet was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and organized the first Sunday school in Wallowa County. In the early days he often made long trips to attend the quarterly conferences of the denomination. He had been a member of that church for more than 63 years. He is survived by his widow, four sons and three daughters. The funeral was held Friday at Bramlet Chapel in Lower Valley and interment was made in the Lower Valley Cemetery.
