W. A. McCully Sept. 6, 1899; Oregonian, p 3 "Also Came to Oregon in 1852" Joseph, OR., Sept. 2 W. A. McCully, one of the pioneer settlers of Wallowa county, died here yesterday. He was born in Ohio in 1844. While a child, his parents moved to Iowa, and in 1852 crossed the plains and settled in the Willamette valley. In 1868 he married Miss Jennie McDonald and moved to Eastern Oregon, living for a while in the grand Ronde valley, and finally in 1881 locating in the Wallowa valley, then a part of Union county. Since then he has been a continuous resident of this valley and engaged in farming and stockraising. He was a men of quiet habits and sterling integrity, being, so far as known, on friendly terms with every person of his acquaintance. Mr. McCully was a member of John F. Reynolds post, G.A.R., and his funeral, conducted by the post, was attended by representative citizens from Wallowa, Lostine, Enterprise and other places wherever his death was known. Deceased left two sons and three daughters, all grown, one son in business in Joseph and the other in Lostine. Mr. McCully represented the best type of American citizenship.
