Thomas B. Hoover Jan. 24, 1896; Oregonian, p 4 "Finished This Life" Fossil, Or., Jan. 23 Thomas B. Hoover, who died here January 19, was born in Illinois August 7, 1838. His parents came to Washington county, Or., in 1841, where he passed his youth. In 1864 he was married to Miss Mary Chambers, shortly afterward moving to Eastern Oregon, where he lived until his death. At the time of his death Mr. Hoover was engaged in mercantile business. He was one of the first settlers of Gilliam county, and of Fossil. His jovial disposition gained him many friends among the young, while his upright character made him popular with the older citizens, who elected him as the first mayor of Fossil. A widow and seven children survive him.
