Lucy Altha (Brown) Wilkes May 25, 1913; Oregonian, Sec. 3, p 7 "Lucy Altha Wilkes Dead" Lucy Altha Wilkes died May 20 at the home of her son, Amos Wilkes, at Winlock, Or., at the age of 69 years after an illness of about three months. She was born in Warren County, Missouri, September 30, 1843. She crossed the plains with her parents by ox team in 1847, her father, Orris Brown, being the captain of the train. They settled near Forest Grove, Or., where Lucy Brown was married to Samuel Wilkes in 1860. They continued to live there until 1882, then moved to Tillamook, remaining there until 1893, when they moved to Wheeler County, where she lived until her death. Her husband died May 3, 1903, at Winlock, Wheeler County. She was the granddaughter of Tabitha Brown, one of the founders of Pacific University, Forest Grove. There were three sons born to her, two of whom survive her---Amos C., of Winlock, and one adopted daughter, Mrs. Lulu Thompson, of Lyle, Wash.
