Morrow County, Oregon
Nestled in northeastern Oregon, Morrow County was established in 1885 and named after Jackson L. Morrow, a state legislator and early settler. The county seat is Heppner, a historic town shaped by agriculture, railroads, and resilience—most notably following the devastating flood of 1903.
Morrow County’s communities—including Boardman, Irrigon, Lexington, and Ione—have deep roots in wheat farming, sheep ranching, and irrigation development. Families from the Midwest and Europe settled here in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, leaving behind rich genealogical records and pioneer cemeteries.
